It's true that food plays an important part in the English language and people use food idioms all the time.

If you look in any dictionary you will be amazed at how many food-related phrases and idioms there are. Here are just three: 'the apple of her father's eye'; 'to make her home as warm as toast' and 'to bring home the bacon'.
You will find that some food idioms are easier to understand than others because they are often culturally specific.
